Get Clear On What You Want BEFORE You Start Applying

This may seem like a simple statement, but for many soon-to-be college graduates, the process for searching for their first “real world” job can be quite confusing and haphazard. In the midst of trying to finish up classes and senior work, there is the added stressor of trying to find a job before you graduate.

The constant question asked of college seniors becomes, “So what are you going to do when you graduate?” While this is often a genuine attempt at showing interest in your plans, it only adds to the mountain of stress you already feel. Seriously. I hated that question more than anything my senior year!

This stressful combination often leads to a job search that is more focused on getting any job, rather than a job that is aligned with your core purpose, values and strengths.

As someone who 3 weeks into her first job out of college had a sinking feeling that she’d made a terrible mistake, I know all too well the results of a job search focused on getting ANY job.

In this workshop, I offer you a different way of approaching your job search process, one that will help you avoid the trap of taking any job you can get your hands on. Instead, you'll learn how set yourself up to find a job that positions you for growth rather than frustration.

Workshop FAQ

What will students get out of the workshop?

  • A new way of approaching job searches aimed at getting you to think deeply about your core values and strengths, and to identify how you want to feel on a daily basis at work
  • A new language around what you are looking for in a job to use while networking
  • Take-home exercises to explore concepts discussed in the workshop
  • Renewed motivation and preparedness for kicking off your job search

Does this workshop conflict with career services?

Nope! This workshop is all about the soul-level pre-work for you to do before you go to Career Services. This workshop isn't about resume and cover letter editing, how to get a specific job or how to use the different alumni resources provided by Career Services. It's about helping you do the self-reflective work so that you are more prepared when you get to Career Services, leading to a more focused and authentic job search.

What is the format of the workshop?

The workshop includes about a 45 minute talk, as well as time for Q&A. I like to keep the workshop size to 50 or fewer students (max 100) to foster a more intimate environment, where students can feel more comfortable asking questions and speaking with me directly.
