Feeling absolutely stuck? Well, girlfriend, I've got a quick pep talk for you:
I have been there.
In that place where change feels impossible. In that place where you think you’ll never get out of the circumstances you’re in and that the things you want most in life are entirely unattainable.
It’s a shitty place, that feeling of stuckness - of being at the effect of your life rather than being in control of it. It sucks really badly.
All around you you see other people being happy, getting what they want in life. But for some reason, all you see in your own life are examples of how that life isn’t for you. That the things in life that you want aren’t for you.
It’s a negative feedback loop that keeps playing. And you know what? When all you see is that, it’s easy to stay in this place. Like energy attracts like energy, after all, so it makes sense that this is all that is reflecting back to you when you look around.
But what if I told you that you CAN make a change? What if I told you it doesn’t have to be this way? And that the first step of getting out of this is belief? The belief that things can be different.
Your life changes when you believe that it can change.
Once you start honestly - truly - believing that your life can change, that’s when it happens.
I don’t mean that to sound like everything will be sunshine and rainbows as soon as you believe. No. It’s actually a lot of work once you commit to believing in possibilities. But it’s belief in possibilities that’s going to get you moving forward towards those possibilities.
Belief is a prerequisite to action.
Belief + action = magic
You can’t have action without first believing in an ability to change what’s before you. I mean, why would you take action if you didn’t think any of it would work? You wouldn’t.
That’s so much of what keeps people stuck: The disbelief that their actions will create change.
But the people who make change? They’re the ones who have the audacity to believe that life can be better, their careers can be better, their relationships can be better. They’re the ones who open themselves up to the possibilities because they trust that possibilities are available to them if they put in the work.
Again, I’m not saying this is easy. It takes work. Lots of work and practice.
When we’re in a negative headspace about our lives, it’s hard to break that broken record of negative self talk. It takes constant adjustments in our thought patterns.
It takes catching ourselves in a moment of self-criticism and actively changing the narrative we are telling ourselves. And then it takes doing the things that are going to bring about the changes we want.
Change involves meditation PLUS action. It involves belief PLUS putting ourselves out there and starting to do things that will get us to our goals.
Change also involves kicking our old stories about ourselves to the curb so we can create the new ones we want to be living.
Yes shitty things may have happened to you. They happen to all of us to varying degrees. But only you have the power to change the way you internalize those experiences and to decide how long you want to let them rule your definition of yourself and the direction you’re headed.
There is no 5 step plan to get you to this place. YOU have to be motivated to get yourself there and be willing to do the work it takes.
Like I said, I’ve been there. I’ve gone through it. I’m still actively going through it because it takes practice, especially when our old narratives have been around a long time.
But there is light at the end of the tunnel - even if you can’t see it right now.
Believe in the light and you’ll find your way to it. It takes that belief plus a healthy dose of action to make your way there, and I believe in your ability to find it.
Ok pep talk over. I'm here for you every step of the way! Please let me know how I can help.
Be well,
Carolyn
